Elevate your dive skills and become a confident, capable diver with our NAUI Rescue Diver course. This comprehensive continuing education program empowers you with the essential knowledge and practical skills to manage risks and effectively handle in-water problems and diving emergencies.

Through realistic scenarios, you'll learn vital techniques including:

  • Assists and Transports: Master effective methods for aiding distressed divers on the surface and underwater.
  • Surface Rescues: Develop proficiency in rescuing both boat- and shore-based skin and scuba divers.
  • Rescues from Depth: Gain the ability to safely bring divers to the surface from various depths.

This course is not only crucial for enhancing your personal safety and the safety of those around you, but it also fulfills the prerequisite rescue training for aspiring NAUI Skin Diving Instructors, NAUI Assistant Instructors, NAUI Divemasters, and NAUI Instructors. Be prepared for anything the underwater world throws your way!

Within the last two years, you must have successfully completed:

  • CPR (with Breaths and Compressions) or a Basic Life Support (BLS) course.
  • An Oxygen Provider course.

Both of these required courses are available either separately or as a combined program that we regularly teach. Please check our schedule and enroll in these additional required courses if you haven't already. If you have any questions regarding your prior training or these prerequisites, don't hesitate to give us a call!

Prerequisites for the NAUI Rescue Diver Course

To ensure a safe and successful learning experience, please review the following prerequisites for our NAUI Rescue Diver course:

  • Age: You must be at least 15 years old by the water phase of the course. (Junior certification for ages 10-14 years is allowed; please see our "Policies Applying to All Courses: Age, Junior Certification" for more details.)

  • Certification/Experience/Knowledge: You are required to be certified as a NAUI Open Water Scuba Diver or hold an equivalent certification. Our instructor will ensure you have adequate knowledge and capability before any open water training, which may involve skill evaluations or a screening dive. A dedicated open water dive (not counting toward the course's minimum dive requirements) can be used for evaluation if your diving proficiencies aren't already well known to the instructor.

Important Prerequisite Information Regarding First Aid & Oxygen Provider Certifications:

Please note that this NAUI Rescue Diver course does not include the prerequisite certifications for Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR & First Aid, or Emergency Oxygen for Scuba Diving Injuries (EO2). However, these skills are absolutely critical in a real emergency, and as such, you are required to complete them before beginning your Rescue Diver training.

To meet this requirement, you'll need to complete a BLS CPR & First Aid course as well as a DAN Emergency Oxygen Provider course. Alternatively, you can take a bundled course often known as Diving First Aid, which covers both.

If you've already completed these trainings, that's great! We just need a copy of your current certification cards for both CPR and O2 Provider, demonstrating completion within the last two years.

  • Equipment: Students are responsible for furnishing, caring for, and maintaining their own diving equipment. Our instructor will assist you in initially checking all your gear to ensure it is adequate and in proper working order.

We want to make sure you're set up for success and feel confident in your training. Please don't hesitate to give us a call if you have any questions at all regarding these prerequisites, gear requirements, or your prior certifications!
